Well the wheels really fell off this thing
I has been almost 4 months since I posted here. 4!!!! Months!!!!! So very much has happened in that time and I'm not sure I can fill in all the details. So let's try for some general highlights.
In January, when we came back from Christmas break, I was kind of over the whole modeling thing. This year's class is probably the hardest class I've had in a while and it was a battle every single time. I got frustrated and decided that I was completely over it. So I went back to old school methods. Okay, not completely, but much more old school than modeling. I've decided that I'm not really a fan of the modeling curriculum. There are lots of gaps and holes in it and I'm just not completely comfortable with it. There are a few other curriculums out there along the lines of the modeling one and I'm thinking about looking into those. I did look into them some last summer and then decided to go with what I had. I'm thinking that was a bad choice. So I'm going to really think about these things over the summer and figure out what to do. I need to figure exactly what I want them to learn and then the best way to go about doing that.
I also gave up on the notebooks and the summative tasks. I thought they were great ideas and for the students who did them, most really liked them. But it was such a battle with some students that I just couldn't do it anymore. So, again this summer, I'm going to decided what I want to do and then get it set up for the whole year. If I'm going to use a notebook, I'm going to have it all laid out in units, with phenomena, and templates. I want it done and not something I have to think about on the fly.
So we have 6 weeks of school left and I'm definitely over it. I want to spend my summer getting things set up so I don't have to think much about it next year. Just look at the schedule and get it done.
